Hialurom Tendon belongs to the category of medical products & devices and is suitable for the treatment of pain and limited mobility in tendon disorders. It is an injectable solution in a pre-filled syringe, containing a unique combination of sodium hyaluronate and mannitol for peritendinous or intrasheath infusion.
Sodium hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, which has a high viscoelasticity and is a structural component of many organs and tissues. In an average person, around 15 gr. of hyaluronic acid are contained in their body, in various forms.
In medicine, its application in gel form is widespread, as in ophthalmology and plastic surgery, but the injectable form is also used, for example in orthopedics.
It doesn’t have immediate anti-inflammatory or analgesic action, but it acts at a slow pace, and its effect appears gradually after 3 to 6 weeks. Its action may last several months.
Mannitol is a natural substance found in seaweed, mushrooms, and tree exudates. It is a polyol, whose use in the food and pharmaceutical industries is extensive, due to its unique properties.
Mannitol is also widely used in medical practice, in a variety of clinical indications, mainly because of its osmotic properties. It also acts as a scavenger of free radicals and reduces their harmful effects during ischemia.
In humans, externally administered hyaluronic acid is rapidly degraded by oxygen radicals, thereby significantly limiting its duration of action. In vitro studies have shown that combining high concentrations of mannitol with hyaluronic acid protects against the degradation caused by oxygen radicals, and can therefore extend its duration of action without altering any of its circulatory properties.
Hialurom Tendon reduces the superficial friction of tendons, whose ability to move and slide freely diminishes due to micro-tears and adhesions. Administration of hyaluronic acid results in the formation of certain chemical complexes on the tendon surface that improve its sliding ability and altogether motility.
These hyaluronic acid complexes act as a “cellular sieve” that prevents the uncontrolled passage and free infiltration of inflammatory cells, prostaglandins, and cytokines.
In addition, hyaluronic acid provides an ideal environment for cell proliferation. Improved environmental conditions increase cellular activity. Cells increase the production of extracellular matrix, and this promotes the healing process.
Due to its lubricant and viscoelastic properties, the Hialurom Tendon improves tendon gliding and the normal healing process. The provided solution features some unique properties:
- It enhances tendon sliding ability and reduces the formation of adhesions.
- It facilitates recovery
- It ensures significant pain reduction and notable improvement in associated symptoms
- It offers high satisfaction rates and facilitates a pain-free return to sports activities
Hialurom Tendon should only be used by appropriately qualified specialists, trained in the technique of peritendinous or intrasheath injectable infusions.
The product is injected around the affected tendon or within the affected tendon sheath (image-guided, if possible) once a week, with total treatment duration of 2 injections. Care must be taken to avoid injury to the peripheral nerve or infusion into the adjacent blood vessels. More than one tendon can be treated simultaneously.
